Cranbrook, British Columbia

Late in the afternoon, some eight hours after leaving home, we reached Cranbrook. Reservations had been made at the Cranbrook Premiere Residence (CPR House) Bed & Breakfast located on 12th Avenue South. This bed & breakfast is a registered heritage site and is steeped in Canadian Pacific Railway history as well as the history of the city in which it is located. The chronicle and pictures of the restoration of the building is available in the Parlor and is worth taking the time to read.

Once settled into our room, we were ready for our evening meal and we hoped our hosts could recommend a restaurant to feed these hungry travelers. As with any bed and breakfast we have stayed at, our hosts were most accommodating and soon we were off in search of Heidi’s. This restaurant was not a disappointment as the food, service, price and décor were all rated excellent in our opinion and we have added this dining experience to our list of “return establishments”.

         

Our room was located on the main floor complete with a huge bathroom and old fashioned claw footed bath tub. One of the main features of the room is the large light fixture directly over the bed. The room has been aptly knick-named “The Boob Room”. A name the owners themselves have been quoted as using in a local tourist publication we found in the room.

 

  

After a long day of travel and a wonderful meal, the private entrance from our room to the veranda enticed us outside. Here we found two wooden rockers waiting for us in the perfect setting to sit, relax and enjoy the evening and the beautiful grounds.

Our stay here in Cranbrook ended too soon as we were on the road once again the next morning for the next leg of our trip which would take us south through Idaho and west to Spokane.
